Father Doug's New Call

It is with pride and affection that we announce that the Reverend Dr. Doug Thomas has been appointed by Bishop Mayer to serve as the Vicar of Trinity Church, Albany beginning in February of this year.

Fr. Doug is a familiar face in Albany. Before the pandemic, he celebrated the Eucharist and preached at Trinity on a monthly basis. In the coming months and years, he will shepherd that community as they seek to discern what God is calling them to do in this next phase of their common life. He goes with our prayers and very best wishes for a fruitful and successful ministry.

Even before his ordination to the priesthood, Fr. Doug has blessed Heavenly Rest with his intellectual rigor and spiritual depth. Few people have attended one of his classes without being enlightened or having their faith transformed in a meaningful way. He has been a gift to this parish.

Fortunately, despite his new call, Fr. Doug’s time at Heavenly Rest has not come to an end. Since Trinity currently meets only on two Sundays of the month, Fr. Doug will continue to be in our midst on a regular basis. Now, two communities will benefit from his many gifts for ministry, and for that, we give thanks to God.

Almighty God, the giver of all good gifts, in your divine providence you have appointed various orders in your Church: Give your grace, we humbly pray, to all who are called to any office and ministry for your people; and so fill them with the truth of your doctrine and clothe them with holiness of life, that they may faithfully serve before you, to the glory of your great Name and for the benefit of your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
