Services at Heavenly Rest
Throughout each week, the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest offers several opportunities for worship. Our two Sunday morning services in the nave with Holy Eucharist are complemented by our Sunday school classes for adults and youth. Every weekday morning, we start the day in the chapel with morning prayer and on Wednesday evenings we meet for our healing service with Holy Eucharist. Join us throughout the week for these services and review our church calendar for a more complete listing of parish life.

The Inklings
The Inklings were a gathering of friends – all of them British, male, and
Christian, most of them teachers at or otherwise affiliated with Oxford
University, many of them creative writers and lovers of imaginative literature –
who met usually on Thursday evenings in C.S. Lewis’s and J.R.R. Tolkien’s
college rooms in Oxford during the 1930's and 1940's for readings and criticism of
their own work, and for general conversation. “Properly speaking,” wrote W.H.
Lewis, one of their number, the Inklings “was neither a club nor a literary
society, though it partook of the nature of both. There were no rules, officers,
agendas, or formal elections.”
Given the informality of this structure, the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest hopes to continue this tradition organized around our Lenten evensong services. Tolkien and Lewis will be featured, along with George MacDonald, Dorothy Sayers, and T.S. Eliot as we discuss the themes of these writers as we examine the importance of the told story in our own spiritual, moral, and creative development. |
