Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest
Clergy Ministries

Join Heavenly Rest for Morning Prayer every weekday at 8 a.m.
Prayer is the practice of the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the place for admitting our need, for adopting humility, and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James: 4:8
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:6-7
You are invited to submit your prayer requests or praise reports to the church by completing the information below. Individuals usually remain on the prayer list for two weeks, unless requested otherwise.

Morning Prayer

Morning Prayer is offered every weekday morning from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel.

In the waters of baptism we are lovingly adopted by God into God’s family, which we call the Church, and given God’s own life to share and reminded that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ.

Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ's Body, the church. God establishes an indissoluble bond with each person in baptism. He adopts us, making us members of the church and inheritors of the Kingdom of God. In baptism we are made sharers in the new life of the Holy Spirit and the forgiveness of sins. Baptism is the foundation for all future church participation and ministry.

Each candidate for baptism in the Episcopal Church is to be sponsored by one or more baptized persons. Sponsors (godparents) speak on behalf of candidates for baptism who are infants or younger children and cannot speak for themselves at the Presentation and Examination of the Candidates. During the baptismal rite the members of the congregation promise to do all they can to support the candidates for baptism in their life in Christ. They join with the candidates by renewing the baptismal covenant.

Baptism is especially appropriate at the Easter Vigil, the Day of Pentecost, All Saint's Day or the Sunday following, and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after the Epiphany).

For information about Baptism at the Church of the Heavenly Rest, visit with a clergy member by calling (325) 677-2901.

When the last niche in the original columbarium was designated for a member of our parish in 2011, the Heavenly Rest vestry began conversations on how to expand this option for our parishioners in the future.

This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.We seek to be alive to the departed and believe in the communion of saints, where we are all gathered into the Presence of God. Given the meaning with which we endow our church's rite for the burial of the dead, the vestry suggested that a more comprehensive design be offered for the integration of this sacred space with the church, the burial service and a transition to the parish hall at the close of this service.

Heavenly Rest hosts dozens of services each year to honor the faithfully departed. Many members find it helpful to provide instructions for their service during their retirement years to alleviate stress on their families.

For information about funerals at Heavenly Rest call (325) 677-2901. A service planning worksheet is provided here for convenience or individuals can complete the form here and bring it to the Heavenly Rest offices.

For information about reserving a niche for you or a loved on in the new Columbarium, contact the office at (325) 677-2091 at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

St. Francis Memorial Garden

DSCN1427The St. Francis Memorial Garden, also known as the Pet Columbarium, at the Church of the Heavenly Rest exists to provide a peaceful space to memorialize and remember our beloved pets. It is open to all parishioners of the Church of the Heavenly Rest. The Scattering Garden is available to the public. Scattering of ashes is only allowed in the Scattering Garden with consent and presence of a committee member. The Pet Columbarium is a sacred space devoted to the remembrance of our beloved pets.

There are three ways to memorialize your pet within the Pet Columbarium:

1. Stepping Stones - Parishioners may purchase a stepping stone that will for a path running under the trees through the Pet Columbarium. This stone will be of Lueder’s Limestone, the same stone that creates the walls of Heavenly Rest. Cremains may be interred directly into the ground or in a container under each stone. The container holding the cremains shall be no larger than 5x5x8 inches. Each stone will display one pet’s name and a cross. The price for each stone is $300.

2. Niche – Parishioners may purchase a niche that can contain pet cremains. These niches will surround each tree in the Pet Columbarium. Each niche will be capped with an approximately 5x5 inch brass plaque bearing one pet’s name and a cross. The cremains can be interred directly into the earth or in a container no larger than 5x5x8 inches. The price for each niche will be $200.

3. Brass Plaque – Parishioners and non-parishioners may purchase a 2x3 inch brass plaque. This plaque will be attached to the west side of the stone wall that borders the Pet Columbarium. This plaque will display one pet’s name and a cross. Your pet’s cremains may be scattered directly on the earth in the Scattering Garden. It is not necessary to scatter cremains when purchasing a plaque. The price for a plaque for parishioners is $100, $150 for non-parishioners.

With prior arrangements a Pet Pastor will be available to officiate a Burial Liturgy for your pet should one be desired.

NO additional markers, memorabilia or floral arrangements are allowed in the Pet Columbarium. These will be removed and discarded.

Any questions regarding this policy may be addressed to the Pet Columbarium Committee. For more information, you may contact the Church Office at 325-677-2091.
